On Holy Ground
Published in Paperback by Walker & Company (April, 2001)
Average review score:

I could feel God's presence when I read these daily. In this book, I read about the life-changing journeys of 12 biblical characters to learn how they met the Lord, and how I can do the same. I could really feel the presence of God as I read every daily devotional, I often caught myself reading the next few days devotions, just so I could continue in my devotion time with God.

Parables in the Eye of the Storm: Christ's Response in the Face of Conflict
Published in Paperback by Kregel Publications (April, 2001)
Average review score:

A chronological study of Jesus' parablesA parable is a fictitious but true-to-life story designed to teach a specific spiritual, philosophical, or life lesson. Parables comprised about one-third of all of the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. Jesus crafted his stories to confuse His opponents, confront the uncommitted, and teach his followers. Understanding Jesus' parables is essential to the revelation of His life-transforming message. Ideally suited for contemporary students of the New Testament, Parables In The Eye Of The Storm specifically addresses this necessity with a chronological study of Jesus' parables and is a highly recommended addition to personal reading lists.

Pathology Series
Published in CD-ROM by MedTech USA (30 August, 1995)
Average review score:

excellent pathology preparationAs I am begining my first year as a pathology resident I have been re-reading my copy of Robin's and decided to upgrade to a CD rom format. This is a classic and essential book for all med students regardless of specialty. The computer is a great forum for reading large, image intensive works such as this and much easier to carry. The inclusion of the quiz-bank is what makes this a great buy though. Excellent questions and a great way to learn. This is why everyone needs a computer.

Pay Dirt: And Other Whispering Sands Stories of Gold Fever and the Western Desert
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (June, 1983)
Average review score:

Bob Zane is the MAN! Great desert mysteries!Gardner's 2nd collection of Bob Zane stories is as good as the first, maybe a little better! These stories are, to me, the written equivalent of Duane Eddy's best music: both men powerfully evoke the desert southwest in a cool, thundering, unpretentious way that is above imitation. Read these stories wherever you can find them, especially if you live in the SW USA. Tight pulp fiction from the golden age (the '30s) by a man who obviously knew and greatly loved the desert.

Pearl Is a Hardened Sinner (Poetry Ser.)
Published in Paperback by Nodin Press (June, 1976)
Average review score:

A painfully clear-eyed view of kindergarten's traumaKiesel is both scathing and compassionate in his examination of the kindergarten experience. Focusing most of his attention on student profiles, this veteran teacher (14 years at the time the book was published in 1968) also impales parents and fellow educators on his extremely sharp observations. When he notes of Gregory that, "A monstrous little future is pasted on your forehead," the supporting details and images more than confirm the prediction, and you wince. This is visceral poetry about a time in life that is usually framed as fun and games, where nothing really important has happened yet. As Kiesel presents kindergarten, you may soon see that it is already too late for many kids. The question is, has anything changed in the years since? Sadly, these poems seem as timely as ever, yet their clarity and strength offer some hope that there are others like Kiesel in the classroom today. As he says in the final poem, "Thoughts at Dismissal": To teach -- what does it mean?/It means to rise entire; to be/A birthmark; to be surrounded/By shoelaces and vegetarian/Lovemaking; to produce, from a/Milk-mustachioed Beethoven,/An unmistakable thumbprint on music. These poems will leave their own imprints on any readers who find themselves transported back to that first big step in social assimilation, kindergarten, and you will start wondering about what ever happened to those other kids, the ones who just weren't there one day.
